This paper explores how organisations like the South African Nursing Council (SANC) can develop their digital capabilities for supply chain resilience. Developing digital capabilities for supply chain resilience is crucial for organisations like the SANC. This can be achieved through several strategic actions. Firstly, SANC should prioritise investment in technology that enhances data analytics and supply chain visibility. Implementing advanced analytical tools enables real-time tracking of supplies, which is essential for effective decision-making and transparency. According to Christopher (2016), enhanced visibility in the supply chain allows for better forecasting and risk management, helping organisations to respond promptly to disruptions. Secondly, fostering collaboration through digital platforms can significantly contribute to supply chain resilience. Cloud-based systems facilitate seamless communication between stakeholders, including healthcare providers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies. As Ivanov (2020) noted, collaborative digital platforms aid in sharing critical information, enhancing agility and responsiveness during crises. Additionally, SANC can leverage automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimise supply chain operations. By automating routine tasks and employing AI-driven decision-making tools, organisations can streamline processes and reduce human error. This is vital for maintaining operational continuity in times of uncertainty (Wang et al., 2021). For instance, automated inventory management systems can predict shortages and enable proactive replenishment. Furthermore, investing in cybersecurity measures is essential to protect sensitive data and ensure the integrity of the supply chain. With the increasing reliance on digital technologies, a robust cybersecurity framework can mitigate the risks of data breaches that threaten supply chain stability (Khan et al., 2019). Lastly, training and upskilling employees in digital competencies is crucial to improving service quality. SANC should initiate programs that equip personnel with the necessary skills to navigate new technologies effectively. As highlighted by Manyika et al. (2017), a digitally skilled workforce is vital for driving digital transformation and enhancing resilience. In conclusion, the SANC can develop its digital capabilities for supply chain resilience by investing in data analytics, fostering collaboration, leveraging automation, enhancing cybersecurity, and upskilling its workforce. This paper adopts a systems approach to how the SANC can develop their digital capabilities for supply chain resilience as guided by the following research question: How can organisations like the SANC develop their digital capabilities for supply chain resilience? 1.1 Context of Digitalisation: A contextual conceptualisation of the digitalisation capabilities is adopted in this paper to allow for easy application at SANC.
